Juergen Hagenlocher has what it takes to achieve more than a regional presence. “Episodes” is a fine album, showing that the tenor saxophonist from Freiburg is an exponent of elegant, smooth phrasing. No less talen- ted are his colleagues Joerg Eckel (drums), Thomas Bauser (organ) and, above all, guitarist Dano Haider, who spices up the soulful originals by the band members (and two standards) with virtuoso octave and single-note techniques.
